Darejan Dvalishvili represented ICHAD at the 2020 Annual SSWR conference
ICHAD and SMART Africa centers were well represented by several team members at the 2020 Annual Society for Social Work and Research (SSWR) conference in Washington, DC. This year’s conference was themed ‘’Reducing Racial and Economic Inequality.” During the conference, two doctoral students Darejan Dvalishvili and William Byansi made two oral and one-poster presentations highlighting results from the Suubi+Adherence project. Daji’s presentation was titled “Impact of Family-Based Economic Empowerment Intervention on Multidimensional Poverty for Adolescents Living with HIV (ALWHIV) in Uganda” and William’s presentation was titled “Examining the Long-Term Effect of a Family-Based Economic Strengthening Intervention on Depression Among HIV Positive Adolescents in Southern Uganda.” The presentations highlighted the impact of incentivized Child Development Accounts on mental health and child poverty outcomes among adolescents living with HIV. In addition, ICHAD Co-Director Dr. Proscovia Nabunya gave an oral presentation titled: “Gender, Family Communication, and Social Support Factors Associated with HIV Disclosure and HIV-Related Stigma among Adolescents Living with HIV in Uganda.” These findings, from the Suubi+Adherence study, were presented as part of the panel on “Youth Mental Health and Global Adversity.”
